The
Universiade
The Univerisiade for Nebiolo is the realization of a dream:
the re-unification under the FISU flag of the universitary
sport movement. And Turin is the city that organizes the first
edition in 1959.
For the first time in “Stadio Comunale” (ex Mussolini)
Chineses, Americans, Russians, Germans compete together. It
was a big successful, a manifestation of medium importance
becomes in the year an event that for number of athletes,
countries and sports is second only at Olympic games.
Winter Universiade
Torino 2007
The Winter Universiade, which took place
last year from the 17th to 27th January, relaunched Torino
as a university city of International level. Just as the Olympics
were able to promote the Piedmontese capital as a tourist
destination, the greatest university ice and snow sport event
gave the Savoy city the opportunity to be discovered for what
concerns its universities, its beauties and its mountains
by students coming from all over the world. A new and enchanting
Erasmus City to be chosen as favourite seat by all European
university students, as it resulted from the questionnaire
filled in by the 2000 participants who took part to Yeppies,
the convention of the European students associations which
took place in the last days of the Universiade (25th –
28th January). Thus, since a true Erasmus City needs a great
campus and adequate facilities to practice sport, on January
the 22nd 2007 the Universiade baptized the Citadella Politecnica
by laying the first stone of the great multipurpose facility
which is being built near the Politecnico di Torino.
