Nebiolo and IAAF
Nebiolo enters in IAAF in 1972 in occasion of the session
in Munich Olympic games when he replaces Giorgio Oberweger
at the council. They are important years in his career with
Universiadi 1973 in Moscow (idea of the FISU president) and
the European of athletics in 1974, event that show him on
the international stage. Nebiolo become the fourth president
(and the first Latin) of IAAF that aligned 113 countries.
Like president he introduces some radical changes to athletics
world. He creates spectacle Athletics: outdoor and indoor
world championship, the circuit of international meeting,
the birth of cross world championship are the main innovations.
But the innovations do not stop here. An other big innovation
is about institutional level. During the years the entire
proposal that must pass to general council they must be vote
by the different countries aligned at IAAF but this countries
have different weight in the voting. With Nebiolo the situation
changes and every country have a vote. This system assures
democracy, equality and unit.
The new centre of IAAF in Montecarlo and Rome, the decision
of play World Championship every two year, money prizes, the
presence of the athletics in the warmer places of the world
are signs of Primo Nebiolo’s work. Currently there are
210 countries aligned at IAAF, more that ONU.
