Torino, April 27, 2010 – This morning, the XVI International Track and Field Meeting Città di Torino - XI Primo Nebiolo Memorial, which will take place on June 12, 2010 at the Primo Nebiolo Stadium in Torino (Parco Ruffini) was presented at CUS Torino headquarters.

Among the prestigious speakers present were: Fabio Cerutti (Italian speed racer) , Riccardo D'Elicio (CUS Torino President), Marco Mezzalama (Vice Rector of the Polytechnic of Torino), Maurizio Damilano (Fidal Piemonte President).

Many were the special guests, including the Olympic Champion Livio Berruti, the journalist Giorgio Cimbrico (who presented in this occasion his last literary effort, "La Regina e i suoi amanti" – “the Queen and her lovers”), Gianpaolo Ormezzano, and many other journalists who have been following athletics with passion for many years.

CUS Torino President Riccardo D’Elicio was the first who spoke: “I thank you all for being here today. The first thing I want to underline is that this year’s Meeting will take place.  CUS Torino is an association which has an important history on the Piedmontese and Turinese territory and, despite the many economic difficulties of the present moment, is working hard to realize this great event. The credibility we have gained in the last years in the international and Italian athletics world is certainly another essential factor which will contribute to the success of the Meeting. My staff is already working hard to bring important athletes like the young sudanese talent Abubaker Kaki, who already took part in the Meeting in 2009, the Cuban team, including Dayron Robles, Olympic Champion in the 110 hurdles, and the best women athletes who will compete in the 800 m to the Capital of Savoy. The Nebiolo Stadium is the jewel of the Piedmontese athletics and CUS Torino, together with our beautiful city, misses so much the unforgotten father of world and Italian athletics”.

Marco Mezzalama, Vice Rector of the Polythecnic of Torino, spoke about CUS continuous effort for the promotion of competitive and amateur sport underlining: “the importance of the Primo Nebiolo Memorial for our territory and for athletics in general. The Polytechnic of Torino shares the same values as CUS Torino and sport is still considered a fundamental element in the life of each student.”.

Then it was the turn of Maurizio Damilano, who affirmed that: “the Federation is strongly linked to this unique event. To facilitate the success of the Meeting we decided to anticipate the second turn of the Athletics clubs Championships, even if many disapproved our decision. In the role of President of the Piedmontese FIDAL I was greatly upset by this episode, because such an event should be of interest and attract all the people linked to our world. Despite this, I am one of the biggest supporters of the Nebiolo Memorial and for this reason I wish the OC a successful event”.

The next speeches were delivered by Livio Berruti, former athletics glory who won the 200 meters at the Olympic Games of Rome in 1960, and  Fabio Cerutti, Italian speed racer of talent.

Berruti recalled how CUS Torino always succeeds in giving athletics great moments of joy and enthusiasm which unfortunately is seldom perceivable in many occasions; every year the Meeting of Torino is an opportunity for gathering athletics fans of all ages.

Fabio Cerutti declared to be: “Honoured to take part again in this wonderful event. I hope I will be able to repeat the success of last edition and to win again in front of my public”.

The last to speak was the journalist Giorgio Cimbrico: "I come from Genova, but I chose Torino to present my book because I consider this city like a second home. Who could greet me better than CUS Torino and its current great President Riccardo D’Elicio - without forgetting the unforgettable Primo Nebiolo? My passion for athletics was born in the 70s when Nebiolo began to organize this event and the Turinese public fell in love with this great sport. Thus Athletics became my world, the love of my life, and all this thanks to a champion who is here with us today: Livio Berruti. So I decided to start from here to promote my book, "The Queen and her lovers," a history of athletics which stretches for one hundred years of great results and of unforgettable personalities who made it a legend. "

Finally, President Riccardo D’Elicio asked Gianpaolo Ormezzano who was seated in the front row, to close with a personal greeting, and Ormezzano, a great Italian sports journalist, took the opportunity to thank his  friend Cimbrico who dedicated him his book.
